Big Faith
I have to be honest; I’m not a big fan of the old Newsboys –you know, the pre-Michael Tait Newsboys. But they had this song called Entertaining Angels, which I seem to remember liking. I can’t recall what the song was about, but I’m pretty sure I enjoyed it. The song comes to mind now, only because that is what Abraham was doing, entertaining Angels that is, unbeknownst to him.
So, being friendly and hospitable to others is always a good thing to do. Not necessarily because they may be Angels, but because of your kindness, you may have an opportunity to lead them to Jesus. And, that is what Christ has called us to do. Take a moment and read Matthew 25:40. But this isn’t really the point.
The point of this section, I think, is that nothing is impossible with God.
Sarah felt that it was impossible her becoming pregnant in her old age, but she was wrong. Some people probably thought that is was impossible for Jesus to raise from the dead, but they were wrong too. So why do we continue to doubt God?
Maybe it’s because we feel we’ve outsmarted God. We’ve created all these things (gadgets, political systems, financial systems, and other such things) that we now put our trust in. It seems that we feel as if we no longer need God. Instead of trusting in Him, we trust in all of our comforts we have built for ourselves. Are we trying to become our own God? What happens when all of those “things” are taken away from us?
I’ve spoken with men and women from other parts of the world, parts of the world where people literally lose their life because they follow Christ, and their faith always seems stronger than mine. You would think that the opposite would be true. That people who have suffered much would begin to blame God, and doubt Him. Instead the opposite is true. I, who suffer very little, sometimes find myself wondering if God knows what He’s doing. This seems odd to me. The hardships in their lives make their faith stronger, not weaker and the easiness of my life makes my faith weaker, not stronger. It’s because they truly know God to be the sustainer of their lives.
Some of us live in world of impossibilities. It’s a world that we have created for ourselves. We try to decide for ourselves if God can do this or if God can do that. We put limits on God. Like, God used to heal people, but doesn’t anymore; God can’t this one person, because they will never change; God can’t lead me out of my difficulties. Who says?
Who gets to decide what God can or cannot do? Why can’t God heal, or save whom He wants, and why can’t God bring you through the struggles you are going thorough right now?
Now, God doesn’t always do what we want Him to do, because He’s not our own personal heavenly Santa Claus –He’s God. However, sometimes we put limits on what God can do.
Instead of doubting God, let your faith grow, because doubt gives way to fear, and fear cripples our effectiveness for God. Far too many people are living in fear; it is time to begin to radically trust God again. Now is the time, and today is the day to live in FAITH. Nothing is impossible with God.
